Alexios Fotakopoulos was born in Patras in 1982. He is a graduate of the Topography department of the School of Technological Applications of the TEI of Athens.
He studied church music initially under the teacher Dimitrios Papageorgiou in Aigaleo. He then studied in Patras for two years with the well-known Protopsaltis and teacher Konstantinos Makrygiannis (nephew of monk Panaretos of Philotheou Monastery) and completed his musical studies at the Scholeion Psaltikis, from where he received the “Diploma of Byzantine Music” with a grade of “Excellent” in 2016. During his studies, he attended Palaeography courses with teacher Konstantinos Fotopoulos, while he is also a member of the research group on Palaeography of Ecclesiastical Music of the Scholeion Psaltikis, with several trnascriptions into the New Method to his credit.
Alexios Fotakopoulos has been the first cantor in the holy churches of the Meeting of Lord in Kamaro Aigio, Sts Konstantinos and Helen Metamorphosis, St. Nikolaos in Amarousion, St. Anne in Chalandri while since 2022 he has been chanting at the church of St. Chrysostom of Smyrna in Drama.
He is a key member of the choir “En psalterio, with which he has participated in numerous concerts, events and ecclesiastical services (feasts of holy monasteries and parish churches) in Greece and abroad while he has participated in the sound recording productions as well as in the television and radio broadcasts of the choir. His participation is frequent as a soloist in the context of various events.
In 2013, he began teaching church music, while since 2016 he has been exclusively teaching at the Scholeion Psaltikis, as well as the courses “Introduction to the Composition-Melopoiia” and “Introduction to Paleography”.
