Tapakis Kyriakos

Kyriakos Tapakis comes from Cyprus and was born in Athens in 1977. He is a graduate of the Music Experimental High School-Lyceum of Pallini and a graduate of the Department of Music Studies of the AUTH.

With teachers Antonis Apergis (out), Pericles Papapetropoulos (tambourine), Theodora Varsou (folk song), Vassilis Rakopoulos (jazz guitar) and Panagiotis Neochoritis and Yiannis Arvanitis (church music), he has received a multifaceted musical education. In addition, he has attended courses in Harmony and Theory of European Music as well as seminars in Greece and abroad (European program “MediMuses”, Israel, Turkey, Palestine, Armenia, the Lebanon, etc.).

Kyriakos Tapakis as an active musician takes part in festivals and concerts in Greece and abroad and has an active presence in discography. He has collaborated with a multitude of important Greek musicians and singers in the field of traditional music and art song, such as Domna Samiou, the Estudiantina of Nea Ionia in Volos, Sokratis Malamas, Nikos Portokaloglou, etc., the bands Ergastiri of Eastern Music, Kirmizi Gul , Kafe Aman, Lalitades of Rhodope etc. He is a member of the band “Loxandra” and at the same time participates in music groups of experimental and improvised music, such as the Balarom Trio with Pantelis Stoikos and Loukas Metaxas.

He has taught at the Department of Folk and Traditional Music of TEI Epirus in Arta, while in 2014 he started his collaboration with the “Chanting School” where he teaches the oud, tambourine, lute and lafta. He is also in charge and teacher of one of the four student orchestras of the School which – especially for this year – studies the repertoire of the regions of Macedonia and Thrace.
